Week 3 Jungle - Circus

Week 3 Jungle - Circus

Dream Mingle

[ ...Come Tuesday evening, as they settle into sleep, once again the light of the waking world fades and gives way to the fantastical, mysterious world of the dreaming. Once more there is the familiar foliage of the jungle they've come to know so well-- the woods around them thick and seeming without end. But once more an opening appears somewhere within it's depths, presenting to them an interesting new sight to take in. However, this time it's not just the sight that greets them-- there's music and laughter, getting louder as they grow closer, almost as if it's beckoning them. And they may as well press forward... it seems that some older areas have been swallowed by the dense and everpresent fog. The temple can no longer be found no matter how much the dolls search.

In a wide clearing in the woods, there stands a large tent befitting a grand circus. But instead of the usual vibrant colors one might find, the outside is decorated distinctly with stripes of black and white. The tent is dusty and tattered as if it’s seen better days—but on the other side of the flap everything is alive with entertainment. Different paths allow you to make you way around to different areas. There’s always something new to see and everyone’s always moving.

But there’s something odd about the “people” here. It’s as if all their distinguishing features have been taken from their faces. If you looked closely you might be able to tell them apart but something tells you ‘why bother’? They’re just faceless spectators after all. They don't seem to mind.

Yet there’s this feeling of wonder and excitement that seems to fill the room even if it cannot be seen. The people here to see the performers are happy. With so many things to do, you could spend hours here and never be bored.

Wonderful as it all seems, something’s missing. This grand spectacle lacks any sense of direction. The performers are all acting blindly in the only way they know how—doing what they know they can do best to entertain the crowd, but there’s no one there to take the lead. It's almost as if this place and these performers have been abandoned.

Each act is unique just like the performers. Some seem to wear a facade of happiness while others wear blank, tired expressions. ‘You’ve come again!’ or ‘What else is there…? When will it end?’ As you get close to them you can feel different things. There’s definitely a sense of discord among them. What’s happened here to this once cheerful and mystifying place? Perhaps one of them can tell you.

Among them are a small acrobat, a man with two heads, a fire dancer, and a group of clowns.

Or if that doesn't interest you you could always just enjoy your days at the circus. After all-- what greater place could there be to pass the time?
